About Waterbury, CT

Waterbury is located in New Haven County, Connecticut. During the first half of the 20th century, Waterbury was the leading center for manufacturing brassware (castings and finishings included) in the United States. This is what gave it the nickname “Brass City,” and their motto: “Quid Aere Perennius?” meaning “What Is More Lasting Than Brass?” which echoes the Latin Ode 3.30, by Horace.

Some of the important landmarks in Waterbury include the Waterbury Clock Company buildings constructed in 1857. By the end of the 19th century the company had 3,000 workers and made 20,000 clocks and watches per day. Today, the company still operates under the name Timex Group USA, with its new headquarters in Middlebury.
