Thankful Mercury Retrograde is Over...  For a Few Months Anyway!

Planets in the solar system.

Thanksgiving is the holiday that inevitably compels us to reflect on what we're thankful for. Typically it's our families, our health and our blessings. But I'm going to let you in on a secret. I'm also very grateful that the planet Mercury is no longer in retrograde this season!

No one should doubt that the celestial bodies touch our lives, despite their distance. Surely you know that our ocean tides are influenced by the moon's gravitational pull. But did you know that according to Wikipedia, Mercury, one of our closest planets (with a gravitational pull 10% stronger than earth), also has a keen effect on the goings on of our planet Earth?

Mercury passes closest to us every 88 Earth days. But during its regular travels, it goes through an odd gyration (a retrograde) during which it looks like it is traveling backwards. Mercury doesn't actually travel backwards, but it appears to, just like when a car next to you on a highway goes a little slower and appears to be going in reverse.

During this period (lasting almost 16 days), things can go haywire. Mercury is known as the communications planet. Try paying attention to what happens with your interpersonal communications and of course your electronics when it happens next time, and let me know if you have experienced this sort of thing yourself. I just did a Google search on "Mercury in Retrograde" which resulted in 3.25 million results! See for yourself!

Email me personally and I will share with you a few recent stories of things that I can only attribute to this phenomenon.

Be Prepared - Mercury Retrograde 2014 Dates!

February 6 - 27
June 7 - 30
October 4 - 24

According to the Old Farmer's Almanac:

When Mercury is retrograde, remain flexible, allow time for extra travel, and avoid signing contracts. Review projects and plans at these times, but wait until Mercury is direct again to make any final decisions.

  • If you are considering making a big purchase like a car or house or TV, try to delay it a bit (or buy earlier).
  • Backup your computer!
  • Take time to reflect on both personal and professional issues.

My advice: Take heed in 2014, as past events speak for themselves. From the sinking of the Titanic in 1912 to the Three Mile Island nuclear accident and the stock market crash of October 2008 ... oil spills, revolts in third world countries, the 2000 Presidential Election and countless other disasters occurred while Mercury was in retrograde. Inexplicable perhaps, but look closely...there could be a connection.
